It's definitely worth playing if you like Hoenn, ORAS does have some unique features, but so does Emerald, which is why it was disappointing that ORAS didn't take more from Emerald because there's no definitive Hoenn game, you need Emerald alongside ORAS to get the full Hoenn experience. Chimney alongside the hideout in Lilycove which is given to Team Aqua). There's a lot of new features added (the most notable being the Battle Frontier, but there's also the Match Call, new areas of the Safari Zone, Trainer Hill, a smattering of new areas), and the storyline was overhauled so that both Magma and Aqua are antagonists instead of just one (they trade off storyline events giving them to whichever team makes more sense, and Team Magma is given a new hideout inside Mt. Wed 28th Jul Emerald is actually a fairly substantial upgrade over RS.But again, we've seen nothing of that in this game, and the longer they go on without revealing those kinds of things, the more it feels those things don't actually exist in these games. 47/48/Safari Zone, the cut areas from Kanto in GSC). Now Pokemon remakes normally do a lot more in terms of gameplay and story that does make them feel more like legitimate remakes, adding new forms of Pokemon (the Megas in ORAS), new sidequests and features (Pokeathlon, DexNav, etc.), more detail to the story, new areas (the Sevii Island, Rt. Actually, BDSP is even worse than Link's Awakening since Link's Awakening was ancient and the remake was a major leap, whereas BDSP is more recent and the chibi artstyle isn't much of a leap for DP, in fact it almost feels like they did remaster it like they did with Skyward Sword. They both do very little to bring the game's graphics, gameplay, or design up to modern standards. Wed 28th Jul I really don't see much of a difference between the Skyward Sword approach and the Link's Awakening approach, especially in terms of value. And Nintendo/TPC/whoever is responsible really need to be held to better standards than this. These are not worth $60, to charge that for them is spitting in our faces. But why couldn't effort be put into making a good remake for D/P nevertheless? It makes me so sad. I mean, between R/S and D/P, R/S were desperately in need of being made much better and I'm glad that happened. I'm glad to have a Hoenn game I thoroughly enjoy when I didn't much care for Ruby. OR/AS felt like a much better R/S (I never played Emerald, since I wasn't impressed with Ruby) and actually kind of turned around my opinion. Plus, they added the day/night feature back, which the lack of which in R/S/E really upset me. Wed 28th Jul I certainly had my issues with OR/AS (I have my complaints with HG/SS as well), but, as I said, they stylistically matched the generation they were from (making them feel much more worth their price) and they added really neat features (such as DexNav).I don't know if it's because they outsourced it to work on Pokemon Legends, or if this is the trend from now on. But now it looks like the Pokemon remake series has lost its spark. OR/AS and before I held the Pokemon remakes as a shining beacon of what a remake should be like. I'm trying to be better, but then we get this. I know it's hard to believe, but I hate being so negative. $60 for games that look like they could have been released on the 3DS. This certainly bucked that trend, and it might be forgivable, if only the games were sold at a price relative to their quality. Prior to this, every Pokemon remake stylistically matched the generation it came out in. These games right here are a shame to the Pokemon remake series. A new game is being made and IMO it is very exciting.īut.
